Parental Advisory Logo Goes Digital
post by KM The 'Explicit' parental advisory logo (you know the one we're all so familiar with on physical CDs and DVDs) is going digital. The advisory logo will now appear on the same 'Explicit' songs and videos across digital download stores like Amazon, iTunes, and HMV.com; widening the intersection of music and technology. The new digital advisory logo, which enables parents to clearly identify if certain digital content is inappropriate for their children to purchase or stream, also comes with a new website. Parental-Advisory.co.uk was recently launched to provide parents with advice on making informed purchasing decisions.
Chief executive of The British Record Music Industry, Geoff Taylor states,
“We know that the parental advisory logo on CDs and DVDs has been a useful tool for parents, offering them a simple means of identifying music content that may not be suitable for their children ... We believe that parents need the same guidance when their children are downloading or streaming songs or videos online, so we have extended the logo to digital music services. Our new website, www.parental-advisory.co.uk gives parents the details they need.”Amazon, Vevo, Napster UK, HMV, 7digital, eMusic, and Tesco have all agreed to feature the parental advisory logo alongside the relevant content. Apple's digital content store, iTunes, will also add the parental advisory logo to their collections. Until now, Apple only listed 'Explicit' content song by song.
